THE TURKEY VULTURE

On a trip to DeFuniak Springs to attend the Chautauqua Wine Festival, we disturbed this turkey vulture from his "middle-of-the-road" meal.  It was quite the look he gave us as he waited for us to move on so he could continue dining.  I love birds, but this is one feathered fellow I have a hard time liking. Maybe its all those westerns I watched as a kid knowing that if the sky was full of circling vultures, someone had a very bad day.

  1. We have turkey vultures and black vultures living on the mountain. They like to perch on the tops of the trees. Once, they were on my roof..Great shot!

  2. Hello Baysidelife.
I also have a hard time liking this guys, but your photo is with some nice details, the contrast of the feathers are great, an interesting shot.
All the best, have a nice day, see you soon.

  3. I looked at the enlargement and it's surreal, so much detail. I do love to see them soaring, they're very distinctive. A very fine photo.

  4. We are influenced, aren't we? I mean, it's just nature after all though of course there are prettier birds by far...

  5. We have lots of these critters up here, and they can be very possessive of their "dinner".
I agree, not a friendly or attractive bird, but they do have their place in society I guess.
