FEATHERING THE NEST

Last Friday, I went to Ft. Pickens with two good friends to do a little birding. We were in search of the green towhee which has been spotted on the path leading to the campground. It was a beautiful day, and while we did not see the adult green towhee, we're pretty sure that we saw a juvenile green towhee. Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture. But all was not lost, we did see some amazing sights. My favorite being the photos I took of an osprey couple building their nests. My vantage point was not great, the lighting was all wrong and I was so caught up in watching these beautiful birds, I failed to use my tripod. But, I'll share the best of the lot with you. I plan to return at a different time of day and see how their nest is shaping up.

Gee, that's a long way down.

Off I go. Keep an eye on things till I get back.

Hey look what I found!

I see  the perfect spot for this.

I need a breather. -- Okay, here I go again.

Well, they can't all be big.

Think I'll do a little rearranging.

Hey you with the camera, how's it look so far?

SPRING WINDS

Sunday morning dawned bright and sunny with a howling 25 -30 mph wind. Our usually tranquil bay was roiling with white caps and waves crashing into the seawall. A windy welcome to spring.

FLIGHT OF THE HERON

On one of our recent, colder mornings, this great blue heron was huddled into itself against a cold wind. He stood very still for some time and then with what looked like a shrug, took off--for a warmer place I think.

WHAT DOES MY GARDEN GROW

"The day is coming when a single carrot freshly observed will set off a revolution."
 ~Paul Cezzane (1839-1906)

I don't know about a revolution, but my first crop of carrots were a cause of much excitement at the homestead. While I was taking a short hiatus from blogging, my garden was busily making carrots. My venue has always been a flower garden and my husband's the vegetable garden. But this year I am trying my hand a veggies, and carrots and swiss chard are my very first crops. I can't wait to start planting herbs and summer vegetables. Though I tried tomatoes last summer and the results were less than stellar. But look at my carrots!
