OWL UPDATE

The two great horned owlettes are growing fast and will soon fledge from the nest. I took these photos yesterday. If you look closely, the one on the left is actually sitting backwards with its head turned around. It seems to always perch this way. I wonder if there is something wrong with this little one? I haven't been able to catch Mom or Dad at the nest. They are there very early in the morning, and then seem to disappear. I wonder where they go all day.

They sit so close to one another. Always touching, never separate.

Their ear tufts are forming and becoming more prominent.

The steely-eyed stare.

GREAT HORNED OWL

"There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch and gather under her shadow..."
~Bible quote

After days of watching this nest, I finally saw the Great Horned Owls. I didn't have a very good vantage point and the photos aren't very good, but the owls are so pretty. They seemed fascinated by my picture taking and just sat their watching as I tramped around trying to get a decent shot. It was late afternoon and the sun was not cooperating. I'll have to go back in the early morning and see if I can catch another look at them.

Great Horned Owl in nest.

I thought there was only one Owl in the nest, but suddenly a second Owl popped its head up.

Watching the lady with the camera trying to find a good spot to take a picture.

Can you see the Owl? It's pretty well camouflaged.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER

"I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day." ~ E.B. White
This morning I took my coffee and headed down to the dock and had to turn right around and rush to get my camera.
Waiting to share my morning was a Great Blue Heron and three immature Little Blue Herons.
What a wonderful way to start the day!
