It's been so warm this fall and winter that many of our butterflies stayed around a little longer than usual. I came across this Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae) playing in the grass. Several of them have been visiting my garden for quite some time now. They are welcome to stay as long as they like for they give me many moments of real pleasure watching them flit about.
Two Rhode Island transplants have settled here in Northwest Florida on Escambia Bay. In Rhode Island, we spent most of our summers and fall days sailing the waters of Narragansett Bay, Block Island Sound and Buzzards Bay. We are so delighted to have found another Bay to enjoy.

LATE VISITOR
"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower." ~Hans Christian Anderson

What a beauty! And a quote by one of my favourite authors (the child in me...)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love butterflies very much and these are so beautiful as well as your photos. And the quote is great too. I too enjoy watching them flit about. Well, I'll have to wait to that pleasure until spring. Last night we had another amount of snow so everything is fresh white outside.
ReplyDeleteIn the top photo, it looks like she's dancing.
